Club Jive teach weekly classes to cater for all levels of dancers from beginners through to advanced competitors.

Class structure

Beginners class starts at 7.00pm for 1 hour. This is followed by 30 minutes of freestyle dancing where you will have time with our consolidation teachers to review and practice the moves. At 8.30pm our intermediate class starts, followed by 30 minutes of freestyle dancing.

When can I start?

As we don’t teach in blocks or terms, you can start at any time you wish. Each week is taught as a brand new beginner class, always going over the basic hand-hold and footwork for the style. To assist in learning, one beginner move is repeated from the previous week so remembering the moves becomes easier. You will learn 20 beginner moves over approximately 10 weeks after which you will be ready to step up into the intermediate class if you wish.

Do I need a partner?

No, you don’t need a partner, as classes are taught on a rotational basis. However if you do come with your partner and do not wish to rotate through the class that is also quite acceptable.

What do I need to wear?

Any smart comfortable clothes and shoes with either a leather or suede sole as these are far easier to turn and move in. Be aware of personal hygiene and carry a hand towel, deodorant and a clean shirt to change if necessary. Breath fresheners are also a good idea.
